Tugba Kop
Quirky and fun embroidered accessories with a strong and unique illustrative style
Illustration graduate Tugba Kop made a few pieces to sell at her degree show using remaining scraps after experimenting with leather in a previous project. They sold out and from then on she has never looked back.
Best bit? I love that I have combined my two favourite things in life – drawing and sewing. Everything I do starts with observational drawing. I place great importance on this stage as this is the foundation, and what keeps my work fresh and unique. Despite embroidery being quite a traditional craft, I think I have to use it in a fresh way.
Favourite piece? My old man purse. I never get bored of looking at that face… and he only gets better with age. Now I want to find an old woman to draw, who is worthy of accompanying him.
How do you describe your work? Contemporary, fun and quirky. I aim to make things that are both beautiful and practical
