hand-crafted embroidered cards
Surrounded by piles of colour-coordinated scraps of fabric, boxes of ribbons and tins of buttons, textile art student Sarah Dodd hand crafts each of her beautiful embroidered cards from a workspace at her home in Winchester. ‘What I love about my cards is that although I reproduce the same design, because I do it all with free-hand embroidery, no piece will ever be identical,’ she says. ‘Which I think makes them extra special.’ ‘I love the process of making my work – from having a thought about a design just before I fall asleep and quickly scribbling the idea on to a scrap to paper to experimenting with different fabrics and then the excitement of seeing the final sewn card.’ Sarah’s passion, obvious design talent and attention to detail are what set her range apart. Each of her designs is made using beautiful textured card with her lotus blossom logo printed on the back. ‘I love the here and now quality of my cards,’ she says. ‘I use found fabrics which means they are not only environmentally friendly, but also once a particular piece runs out, it can’t be replaced. I like that.’
