A greetings card designer for 14 years, it was Michele Chivers’ passion for childhood ephemera that inspired her to set up her own business – Cowboys and Custard - back in 2007, designing and producing her own range of cards and box frames. ‘I get a real buzz from sourcing vintage materials from far and wide,’ she says. ‘My mother was a specialist vintage toy dealer, so I guess you could say it’s in my blood!’ Working from the kitchen table at her home in Bath, Michele loves the creative design process – and it shows. ‘I take elements from my own idyllic childhood and blend with vintage finds from my travels,’ she says. ‘The graphics and design of toys and books from the 1950s and 60s are my favourite, probably because I grew up in this era and seeing these childhood relics brings back many happy memories for me. It’s great to think that you can evoke wonderful nostalgic memories by creating pieces of art that bring a sense of time and place.’ We’re delighted to add Michele to lasso the moon as we think her collection brings something individual, quirky and deliciously nostalgic that we’re sure you will love as much as we do.
