Insider Ideas
From young and trendy fashion student Lauren, who adored the Floral bracelet on the shoot because it was so funky and eclectic… to our photographer’s mum (on hand for childcare duties) who was dropping heavy hints that she’d love the two discs Romantic pendant for Christmas, it’s clear that this is jewellery for women of all ages and whatever their sense of style.

Kate Hamilton Hunter

contemporary jewellery hand made in vintage tin and silver
Whilst studying textiles at college, Kate Hamilton Hunter developed a technique of patching and piecing with metal and wire instead of fabric and thread which lead her to experiment with old biscuit and sweet tins… and turn them into pieces of jewellery! ‘I made an angel from a syrup tin one day and from then on I knew I’d found my new design direction,' says Kate. 'The colour, text and pattern on the tin made the piece come alive.’ Based in a design studio next to the sea in North Wales, Kate begins the creative process by rummaging through her bulging ideas sketchbook and boxes of old tins. ‘Once I start snipping and see the ideas take form and develop, it feels great!’ she says. ‘I often work late into the night because once I get started, I don’t want to stop! There’s a sense of story telling about my jewellery that I really love. And much of it is unique, due to the nature of the materials used.’ We just loved Kate’s collection when we came across it because it was not only very beautiful and wearable, but also something new and different. Coming from a background in textiles, rather than jewellery, Kate has created a strong and exciting look of her own.
