Julia’s range has developed impressively since its launch and has already received much interest from the glossy interiors magazines. We think she’s a name to watch. Our favourite piece from her collection right now is the Blue Bird teapot because it’s vintage in feel and yet is totally contemporary too. Just gorgeous!
Julia Davey Ceramics
Highly individual ceramics combining charm and nostalgia with clean and contemporary design
For two years after graduating from art college in 2007, Julia Davey saved hard to be able to afford her own kiln and a small studio beside the Avon canal in Bath. In the summer of 2009, Julia’s dream of being able to produce her own range of ceramics became a reality.
Favourite piece? I really like my seaside range – it reminds me of my family’s visits to the Cornish coast every summer. To me it conjures up strong memories of holidays in Penzance by the sea.
Where do you find inspiration? I like to draw all year round but find the summer months most inspiring. I keep my ideas in a keepsake box – small sketches or photos of things that I see which are fun to revisit when putting together a new range.
What makes your range special? I use modern colours and shapes combined with my hand drawn transfers so there is a slightly nostalgic feel too. No two pieces are ever the same as the pattern placement will always be slightly different.
Treasured possession? I was very proud of my first set of mugs – the bird design – and I still have one to remind me of that day – now filled with my favourite paint brushes!
