Our photographer, Kay, fell in love with Jo’s prints when we were photographing them. ‘I’m going to put Blue Beach Days on the studio wall above my desk,’ she says. ‘Because when I’m a bit stuck or stressed it would feel good to gaze into it and imagine myself there, drinking in all that ozone.’
Jo Bradford
stunning artwork which blends photographic and fine art techniques
Inspiration is never hard to find for photographic artist Jo Bradford, who lives and works near the sea in Cornwall.
‘I tend to hang around the cliffs and meadows around my home on St Agnes Head,’ says Jo. ‘Whether I am lying in a sunlit field staring at the clouds in the skies or sitting where land meets the ocean and studying the horizon, I am absorbing all of the colours and emotions I feel to interpret in my work later.
‘I spend weeks planning, sketching, designing and refining before I set out on a creative day,’ she says. Using a technique that blends photography with fine art, Jo is an avid collector of vintage cameras. ‘I am in love with the warped perspectives and unreal quality that these old fashioned lenses and viewfinders give my work,’ she says.
We think Jo’s work stands out not just because of her unique talent but also because of her attention to detail and insistence on quality materials: ‘I put a lot of energy into making sure the look and feel of my work, when you have it in your hand, is of velvety textured thick paper, rich vibrant colours and dreamy imagery.’
At lasso the moon, we are huge fans of Jo’s work and each of us has a different favourite. Atmospheric, ethereal, nostalgic … are just some of the words we came up with to describe Jo’s collection. We’d love to hear your thoughts…
