Insider Ideas
Try placing Holly's pieces in front of a mirror: that way you get to see an all round view and hidden prints around the back of the light can be seen. This will also create depth to the overall effect.

Holly Ross Designs

Exquisite fine bone china lighting pieces, individually made by hand and unique
Holly Ross, who graduated from Bournemouth University, was one of a handful we selected from the hundreds who exhibited at the New Designers show in 2010. We loved the way Holly's pieces came to life when lit and how passionately she spoke about the lengths she’d gone to in order to create such a wonderful collection. Dorset-based and setting out on what promises to be an exciting design career, we are delighted to showcase her first commercial collection.
Favourite piece? I do love the birdcages in my Wonderland Wonders range. I like the shadowing the bird print creates inside when it’s lit up. Having it placed inside creates depth and mystery.
Best bit about doing what you do? I love working with fine bone china and finding ways to play around with its extreme translucency. It’s so exciting when a piece has had its first firing and I can get it under the light and watch it come to life.
What’s special? Each piece is a complete one-off and I have never seen any other work like this.
