Looking at the outstanding collection Glasgow-based designer Gillian Kyle has put together, it’s hard to believe that she has only been going since 2009. Using iconic symbols and brands from our collective past, she has created designs that are rich with nostalgia yet manage to remain bang up to date with a contemporary edge.
How do you find inspiration? I’m such a magpie. One minute I’m poring over the new collections in Vogue and the next I’m searching the internet for photos of funny dogs or some other daft thing.
What makes your range special? My signature style, I guess. I try not be drawn too much into doing what’s fashionable or trendy.
What’s your favourite piece? I love my Glasgow Breakfast design featuring iconic Scottish foodstuffs because of the reactions it inspires in other Scots. Everyone I know has memories of and associations with these brands – they are so ingrained in Scottish culture!
