Emer O'Sullivan

hand-made limited edition ceramics with pretty floral, heart, bird and teacup designs
‘I am at my happiest when making my ceramics and realising new designs,’ says Emer O’Sullivan, who produces her exquisite range of pretty hand-made ceramics in the garden studio of her home in Ireland. ‘The best part is opening the kiln and seeing my finished pieces,’ she says. ‘I’m inspired by my fascination and love for old houses and their gardens, crockery and utensils.’ Emer’s range has a distinctive feminine, ethereal and whimsical look but is designed to be robust enough for everyday use. She impresses lace into the clay, then inscribes each piece with drawings by hand. Once glazed and fired, floral transfers are added before a final firing. ‘The floral transfers give my work a nostalgic appeal. Yet it remains essentially contemporary,’ says Emer. ‘I love the fact that each piece is either a one-off or a limited edition.’
