Charlotte Storrs

hand-thrown and hand-finished stoneware crockery
‘Creativity is oxygen for the soul,’ says Charlotte Storrs, who produces simply beautiful white and muted colour glazed stoneware from a pottery hidden away in a quiet corner of her Oxfordshire garden. ‘I love being able to create useable objects from lumps of clay,’ she says. ‘The throwing part is addictive. For me it’s magical. And I am inspired by natural materials. Food can be so beautiful and stands out wonderfully against the white glaze of my stoneware. To have hand-made plates or beakers to eat or drink from is so much more satisfying than using factory-made ware. My whole range is meant to be used.’ Charlotte’s work has an understated beauty – she uses modest surface decoration along with white or muted colour glazes and sometimes finishes her pieces with the distinctive akebia quinata vine which she imports from Japan. ‘I fell in love with akebia whilst on a trip to Japan last year, says Charlotte. ‘I love the way it combines with simply decorated pots.’
