Many of Cath Deeson's whimsical linocuts have a seaside theme and all are hand-printed, bearing the charming, old-fashioned rough and ready marks of the medium. Try framing in simple white frames. Claire Norton, Assistant Editor, Coast magazine

Cath Deeson

limited edition hand-printed linocuts celebrating seaside living and life in general!
At weekends, Cath sells her hand-printed original linocuts from a beach hut in Whitstable, which seems perfectly fitting when you understand how central coastal living is to her fabulous collection. ‘I’m inspired by all things local… things that makes me laugh or smile...my family… living by the sea,’ says Cath, who has a studio at her home in Kent. ‘There is a lovely old-fashioned quality to lino printing,’ she says. ‘I love the whole process - from thinking up an idea, drawing it, cutting it from lino, rolling the ink on, paper on top, through the press and then peeling back the paper to reveal the new image… So exciting!’ What really sets Cath’s range apart is how she combines her striking designs with whimsical original poetry to produce a range that not only looks fab on your wall, but will also raise a smile. ‘Come on buoys’ is a case in point. ‘It’s one of my favourites,’ says Cath, ‘because it makes me chuckle. When other people laugh too that’s always lovely to hear.’
