Our stylist loves Alice’s brooches and says they would look fab grouped together on a simple plain linen cushion when they are not being worn… an individual and quirky home accessory as well as great to wear!
Alice Rose Lewis
Highly original embroidered textile artwork and accessories with a whimsical, folky feel.
A new graduate in textile design from Cardiff School of Art and Design, Alice Rose Lewis won a prestigious award from Selvedge magazine at the New Designers show in Islington in July 2010. Combining her exquisite and quirky illustrations with textiles and embroidery, Alice Rose’s collection is utterly original and has a very strong and memorable look of its own. She is definitely a name to watch.
Favourite piece? I love my bears as they each have their own character and personality. I spend a lot of time laughing whilst making them.
What’s your creative process? I become consumed by the world I am creating and end up having bizarre dreams about dancing bears and travelling circuses! It’s great having a visual outlet for the characters and imagery in my head. I love the look on people’s faces when they connect with something I have made.
What’s the inspiration? Old European folk stories and fairy tales… reading old books and finding embroidery techniques.
