Insider Ideas
Our creative director, Sam Farrow, asked for the Kali 3-drop aquamarine earrings for her birthday because she had fallen in love with them at the shoot. 'I feel really glamorous when I wear them,' she says. 'But in an understated way. They look totally fab worn with a simple white shirt and jeans or even teamed with chunky knitwear and leggings. I love how they catch the light.'

Alexis Dove

contemporary silver jewellery with precious and semi-precious beads and pearls
Hand-made in her Sussex workshop, Alexis Dove’s collection of jewellery is contemporary, feminine and very beautiful. Influenced by the traditions of adornment from ancient Rome to modern India, Alexis works in silver, creating exquisitely detailed sculptural shapes which she then complements with precious and semi-precious beads and pearls. ‘Silver is wonderful to work with because it can be oxidised to give a blackened surface finish – which brings out detail beautifully,’ says Alexis. ‘This works really well with my wild rose pieces - I love the dramatic effect it gives.’ With a collection of drawings and ideas from all over the world, Alexis does not lack inspiration. ‘So many things inspire me,’ she says, ‘from travelling and beachcombing to antique wallpaper and artefacts. Because inspiration can come from anywhere at any time, I always have my sketch book with me – sometimes I wake up in the middle of the night to jot an idea down.’ For Alexis, making jewellery is a way of life. ‘Jewellery makes me happy,’ she says, ‘and I put a lot of myself into making it because I want my jewellery to be worn and to make the wearer feel special.’
